Date added: 18 Mar 2013 Walkers Crisps - Good News, Bad News

Walkers, the UK's biggest crisps manufacturer, is testing the use of natural flavourings using authentic British ingredients. Smoky bacon crisps will contain extracts of British pork certified ethical by the RSPCA while the roast chicken flavour line will use free-range chicken. Cheese and onion will use cheese powder from Somerset, replacing the artificial flavour enhancer monosodium glutamate, while salt and vinegar packets are to have Cheshire salt, and sour cream and chive crisps will have sour cream from Dorset.walkers smoky bacon

This move to using real flavourings is applauded by most but does not come without a snag. First off, the Roast Chicken and Smoky Bacon flavours will no longer be considered suitable for vegetarians. Secondly, because Canada has strict rules on the importation of meat products and products using meat as an ingredient, these 2 flavours need to get approval for importation. Therefore, Roast Chicken and Smokey Bacon crisps will not be available in our shop once the current stock is sold and until the products receive approval by Health Canada.
